block donation

Sandra Day made a request for 2 blocks to be made by each one of the membership for the raffle quilt to be quilted at the Frex, it is in 2 parts.

Joan Baldwin made the same quilt. It is called "Barbed Wire" by Kim Brackett from "Scrap Basket Surprises" book. This was also the pattern for the fabric exchange in January. This is also the pattern for the quilt that the donated blocks will be made from.

Sandra Betts is a Saint John, New Brunswick-based fiber artist and painter. Born and raised in Halifax, NS, Betts attended NSCAD, enjoyed a career as a registered nurse, then married and relocated to Saint John, where she resides to this day with her husband and family. After retiring from nursing in 1998 for medical reasons Betts’ life-long interest in the possibilities of working with fiber became a fulltime occupation/obsession!

Betts creates one-of-a-kind items from original designs. She specializes in hand-dyed fabrics embellished with hand and machine embroidery and free motion thread painting. Betts accepts commissions especially for portraits. She weaves abstracts and exotic landscapes in fabrics from around the globe – presenting them in both mounted and unframed formats.

Betts is a member of several guilds; a juried member of the New Brunswick Crafts Council, a member of the cooperative Fundy Gallery of Art, and a founder of Fundy Fiber Artists Group.

Bett’s work has earned various prizes and awards. She has had solo shows and exhibits in venues across Canada, the United States, Central America, the former Georgian SSR , Japan, the Netherlands and Spain. Her works have been published in America: From The Heart, (Houston), Quilt Japan, Centro Cutural Norte Americano (Los Yoses, Costa Rica), The Canadian Quilters Newsletter, Kitchener-Waterloo Invitational, New Brunswick Crafts Council - Quilting The Past, Studio Art Quilt Associates , and A Page From My Journal.

Betts takes pride in the fact that her products are original, unique, one-of-a-kind. Hence the name for her line, Individuelle.

And we were lucky enough to have her come to our April meeting and show us her gorgeous wares!
